Kern County Museum
The Kern County Museum started their Clock Tower Holidays last night with the theme “Visions of Sugar Plums”. This annual event kicked off the Holiday Season with decorated Christmas trees and wreaths. Ten Christmas trees were on display with 2 unusual upside down trees. I had the opportunity to decorate one of the upside down trees, Easter. It took me a few days to visualize decorating an upside down tree but once I got started it turned out quite interesting and filled with Easter Spirit. It took me 12 hours to finish this tree. The food was provided by T.L. Maxwell’s Restaurant, I was all over the chicken, sun dried tomatoes and spinach pasta. ☺ For more information about the Holiday Events at Kern County Museum check out their website. The Kern County Museum is located at 3801 Chester Ave.

The trees are quite interesting and highly imaginative. I’m not sure if I would have ever thought of hanging the trees upside down. Is there any significance to the positioning of the trees?
What a great tree! Call me old fashioned of call me wierd. I like Christmas decorations going up early! The more lights the better. Very cool tree C. A christmas tree with chicks and eggs makes me grin.
Supposedly, the upside-down Christmas tree is the more traditional symbol of the holiday. According to legend, the Christmas tree was used as a symbol of religious devotion by Christian missionaries who used the evergreen to explain the basic religious tenet of the Trinity. Also according to legend, they were originally hung upside down to make sure that anyone who saw the tree in the house would immediately recognize its significance.
I’m not sure if I believe that or not – I’m kind of thinking that it’s more of a modern marketing ploy than anything else.
Cessily’s “Easter” tree looks great! As do all the trees.
I didn’t see much of the museum but just the lovely x-mas trees. Obviously did not pay much attention to the others but Cessily’s. I particularly liked the easter theme on Ces’ x-mas tree because it represents Jesus birth and as well as his resurrection.
I love this tree, it is so different and non-traditional. Good way of thinking outside the box! It is now time for change……….good job on the tree. I need help on putting my tree up this year, any suggestions……………….Keep up the creative work!
This tree is great!!!! I have been checking out this website for awhile and never knew all of the great things that go on in Bakersfield. I have been to many other cities in CA and will now add Bakersfield as a place to visit. Thanks for keeping us informed!!!!!
This site is great! I find so much information about Bakersfield. I am fairly new here, and sincerely appreciate what you are doing. Great job Cecily! Keep up the great work! I am really interested in free kids activities. For example; open gym at a gymnastics place, story times at book stores/libraries, free kids meals at the restaurants in town, and other activities for kids, especially during the colder months. Just a thought for us stay at home moms. Thank you for ALL that you do for the city!
