Today was the grand opening of two local Fresh and Easy Neighborhood Markets. If you haven’t heard about Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Markets that’s probably because they just celebrated their one-year anniversary.  Fresh & Easy has been on a mission this year opening over one hundreds stores to bring your neighborhood fresh and affordable food.  Fresh & Easy offers high quality meats, fresh produce, and products with no artificial colors or flavors.  Their stores are small and easy to navigate which makes it easy to get in and get out. I love that they have non-frozen ready meals that only need heating.  I also found two of my favorite things:  Watermelon Juice and Kozy Shack rice pudding. Fresh & Easy IS changing the way people shop! Fresh & Easy has two new locations Olive & Jewetta and Panama & Stine.  They’re planning on opening 4 more stores in Kern County.  To find out more about Fresh & Easy check out their website.

Cay Health Foods has been peddling natural foods for over 60 years.  Before healthy living and eating became fashion Cay Health Foods store was helping locals maintain a healthy diet.  They are a wealth of knowledge and pioneers in the health food market.  Cay Health Foods carries a number of supplements, herbs and foods.  They even have some of my favorites, Dr. Bronner’s and Jason’s natural hair products. I always enjoy perusing the aisles at Lassen’s. Talk about Healthy! My arteries feel less clogged when I leave. I met a friend for lunch today, don’t let the facade of meat fool you, because the black pepper steak and stuffed pepper fooled me. I’m a carnivore, so I didn’t think anything would fancy me, but it did. I had the Thai Peanut Tofu, Certified Organic Salad and BBQ Vegetarian Chicken. And it was Delicious! The texture of the tofu was just like chicken. Tofu isn’t all they have for lunch. Lassen’s is located at 4308 California Ave.

Fresh & Green makes it cool to be Eco Friendly. Before entering their store I knew a little about being Green, but after a tour and some Eco Friendly 101 basics I’m convinced that Green is the way to go. You wouldn’t believe the products they carry and how they have been recycled. Where does someone get the idea to use Elephant Dung as paper? My favorite items were the solar panel backpacks, used to recharge cell phones, computers, etc.; and the bamboo towels. Fresh & Green is the center of all things Eco Friendly, even building a home. Since my friends know about my blog they drag me out to their new finds. Up at 8AM and at a parking lot by 9AM to get fresh organic produce on a Saturday, are you kidding me? But I couldn’t say NO to someone who’s introducing me to potential blog material. So we met and greeted each other in the parking lot while she pulled a crate from her trunk. We walked over to a small tent, where someone checked you in for your weekly delivery. She handed them her crate and they handed it back with her organic goods. It was that simple. I was anxious to find out what was neatly wrapped in brown paper inside the crate. As soon as we got to the car we ripped it open to see what was in this week’s box. It was an organic grab bag. “Like a box of Chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.” The colors of the vegetables were vibrant. There were carrots, tomatoes, radishes, beets, lettuce, squash, and spinach. Inside was also the weekly newsletter that gives you recipes, tells you what you have and where it was grown.
California produce is by far the best. I think this is a wonderful idea. I’m going to order the small crate, which is good for two. We all need more vegetables! ☺ They also have organic eggs, and chicken. Check out their website for information.
